ON THE ROAD TO PROGRESS: Governor Oborevwori's Bold Push for Quality Infrastructure

On a rainy morning in Warri and surrounding communities, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, embarked on a thorough inspection tour of key infrastructure projects spanning several local government areas. This strategic initiative reflects his unwavering commitment to transformative governance under the MORE Agenda, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The governor’s inspection covered the landmark Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road in Warri South LGA; the 612-metre Ayakoromor Bridge and its 3km approach road at Egbo-Ide/Ayakoromor in Ughelli South and Burutu LGAs; the vital 5.7km Olomoro-Igbide Road in Isoko South LGA; and Sector C1 of the ambitious Ughelli-Asaba Expressway. Each project underscores his administration’s resolve to bridge infrastructural gaps and enhance statewide connectivity.

At the Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road, executed by Setraco Nig. Ltd.— Governor Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with the project’s pace, acknowledging its strategic importance for integrating the Itsekiri nation and boosting rural-urban linkage. Having languished in limbo for nearly two decades, the road is now slated for completion by early 2026. The governor also revealed plans for constructing two jetties to complement the road, explaining that certain sections were left to settle, ensuring long-term durability. He nevertheless urged the contractor to intensify efforts, affirming his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on delays.

The governor’s visit to the Ayakoromor Bridge highlighted both its critical value and the urgency of timely delivery. With 18 spans crossing the Forcados River, the bridge promises to revolutionize connectivity for riverine communities. Dissatisfied with the pace of work, Governor Oborevwori summoned the contractor, HCW Highway & Urban Roads, along with key engineering officials, to a meeting in his office for immediate resolution. Describing the bridge as “very dear” to him and his people, he pledged its completion by early 2027. The unannounced inspection was met with enthusiasm by local residents, a clear indication of the project’s transformative potential.

The 5.7km Olomoro-Igbide Road in Isoko South LGA represents another long-overdue lifeline for the people. With eminent community leaders in attendance, the governor was lauded for his responsiveness to the needs of the Isoko region. Once completed, the road will drastically improve transport, catalyze economic activity, and enhance access to essential services. The gratitude expressed by the Igbide community affirmed the significance of fulfilling long-standing infrastructure needs.

Equally impactful was the governor’s visit to Sector C1 of the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, a vital section of the 143-kilometre dualization project. Expressing optimism about its near completion, he noted a significant reduction in travel time between Asaba and Ughelli to under two hours. The governor praised the quality of work and positive feedback from commuters, positioning the project as a flagship of the MORE Agenda. For him, the satisfaction of Deltans across all three senatorial districts remains the ultimate metric of success.

Throughout the inspections, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of timely contractor payments and urged expedited delivery across all sites. With numerous projects finalized ahead of his second anniversary in office and many more underway, his administration is ensuring that no part of Delta State is left behind. His consistent, hands-on approach, including return visits to critical projects like the Trans Warri/Ode Itsekiri Road (last inspected in September 2024) and the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway (visited again in March 2025), underscores his leadership’s credibility and resolve.

These inspections highlight more than infrastructure, they embody a vision of inclusive development, economic empowerment, and regional unity. By tackling delays, maintaining open dialogue with communities, and reinforcing performance expectations, Governor Oborevwori is not just building roads and bridges, but also trust, hope, and a better future for all Deltans.
