Chelsea end City 20-match unbeaten home record thanks to Ivanovic’s screamer

Hazard-CityBranislav Ivanovic’s goal was the difference, as Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad, to end their unbeaten home run.
The game, which was billed as a six-pointer, began with the hosts dictating the tempo, but slowly the Blues got into the rhythm and began to cause them all sorts of trouble.
Fernandinho and Aguero were a big miss for City, who struggled to re-enact their sharp, fluid attacking football.
Chelsea took the lead in the first half, when a loose ball fell into Ivanovic’s path and he smashed it in with his left foot.
It was the first time in 61 games – going back to November 2010 – that City had failed to score at home. It also ended their 20-match home run this season at the Etihad, where they put other teams to the sword.
City and Chelsea are tied on 53 points, but Manuel Pellegrini’s men occupy the second spot, thanks to their superior goals difference.
