OROGUN KINGDOM CROWNS A NEW ERA: Osuokpa I Receives Staff of Office

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has formally presented the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Joseph Okorocha Emoghene, Osuokpa I, the Okpara-Uku of Orogun Kingdom.

In his address, Governor Oborevwori congratulated His Royal Majesty on his ascension to the revered throne of his ancestors, describing it as a testament to a life of service, scholarship, and distinguished leadership.

“Your Royal Highness,” the Governor stated, “your emergence as Okpara-Uku is a reflection of your lifelong dedication to education, integrity, and communal advancement. As a retired Senior Principal and alumnus of the prestigious Universities of Ife and Ibadan, and as a widely travelled statesman, you bring to this exalted stool a rich blend of wisdom, experience, and global perspective.”

He emphasized that the Staff of Office symbolizes more than authority, it is a mandate to lead with honour, foster unity, and champion the sustainable development of Orogun Kingdom.

The Governor called on all sons and daughters of Orogun to rally behind their new monarch in a spirit of unity and shared purpose. “Let us work together,” he urged, “to build a peaceful, united, and prosperous community where no one is left behind.”

Addressing the pressing needs of the kingdom, Governor Oborevwori assured the people that their demands for critical infrastructure are well noted. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the completion of the Ebor–Obodeti–Orogun Road, the 1.6km link road from Orogun Grammar School to Igbuku Junction, as well as the rehabilitation of other key roads across the kingdom.

“Our government is steadfast in its resolve to enhance connectivity and drive inclusive economic growth throughout Delta State,” he said.

In the opening speech of the Okpara-Uku, delivered through Chief Ovoke Oyefia, the Onotu-Uku of Orogun Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Osuokpa I appealed to all stakeholders—Ekpara of various quarters, the Okpara-Uku-in-Council, the Council of Chiefs, the Eweya, the Ighenes, and all Orogun sons and daughters to support his reign with loyalty and shared responsibility, as he leads the effort to build a stronger, united, and forward-looking kingdom.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Hon. Jaro Egbo, underscored the vital role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and security at the grassroots level. He encouraged the people to collaborate with their monarch to ensure continued progress and stability.

Among the dignitaries present at the historic occasion were Hon. Onoriode Agofure, Commissioner for Transport; Hon. Kelly Penawou, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; as well as several senior government officials, community leaders, and prominent Orogun sons and daughters, who gathered in celebration of this significant milestone in the kingdom’s history.
