DELTA 2015: Tony Obuh Eminently Qualified To Be Governor, Says Delta PDP Chairman, Chief Nwaoboshi,

The State Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi has said that for the sake of equity an Anioma son or daughter should emerge as governor of the State in 2015. Chief Nwaoboshi stated this when Mr. Tony Obuh paid him a consultation visit.

The PDP Chairman who prayed for Sir Obuh, asked God to grant him his heart desire. The Chairman, while speaking asked rhetorically, who said Sir Tony Obuh was not a politician?  He then noted that whenever Tony Obuh came to his house they always discussed politics. He emphasized that Tony Obuh is grounded in all the policies and programmes of the State government in the past fourteen years and that Obuh retired from the political position of Permanent Secretary, because appointment to that position is political.

He thanked  Obuh for the support he had given to the party in the past, adding that the Obuh family had always been supportive PDP, especially the late Chief Ben Obuh who was until his death the vice chairman of the party.

Earlier, Sir Tony Obuh told the PDP chairman that the visit was to inform him of his intention to run for the position of the governor on the platform of PDP, having been a card carrying member since 2011.

While responding Tony Obuh said he is sufficiently exposed in what Delta requires to build on the solid foundation laid by the Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration. Sir Obuh said his venture into politics just after retiring from the State Civil Service is to add value to the life of Deltans through sustainable and people oriented projects and policies that would improve the State’s economy. He said for his aspiration to be achieved he needed the support of the State PDP chairman and stakeholders in the party, stressing that he was committed to flying high the party’s flag.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment. The enthusiastic reception for Chief James Ibori during this solemn occasion highlighted his enduring legacy among the people of Delta State.
