DELTA: OROGUN KINGDOM GETS NEW OKPARA-UKU

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Prof. amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, who represented the Governor noted that “I am happy to be here today at this epoch making event, as this occasion marks the glorious conclusion of series of activities for the coronation of the new Okpara-Uku of Orogun Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Efeurhobo Eyefia 1”.

I am particularly pleased, because the selection process that produced the new Okpara-Uku was devoid of the bitter contest arising from disgreements, which often attend similar exercises in some communities. I am inclined to deduce, therefore, that the emergence of His Royal Highness is a product of a popular choice of the people to give Orogun Kingdom, an eminently qualified personality to further strengthen the much edified throne of Okpara-Uku.

I commend this evidence of maturity of all Orogun people both at home and in the diaspora for this civilized process that makes all of us proud. This has clearly shown the whole world that indeed Orogun is not only the Land of Honour in name, but also in deed. I therefore heartily congratulate the Okpara-Uku-In-Council, the entire people of Orogun and other stakeholders for a job well done.

I deliberately took time to look at the personality of the new Okpara-Uku and discovered admirably that our Okpara-Uku has the pedigree and the right antecedent to move Orogun and indeed Delta State to a greater height. Nonetheless, I wish to charge our Okpara-Uku to justify the confidence reposed in him by the people of this community and Delta State Government in ensuring the maintenance and improvement of the high integrity enjoyed by the exalted throne.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, I will like to use the opportunity provided by this occasion to sincerely appreciate the people of Orogun and indeed all Deltans for their support, understanding and cooperation in the last eight years. I encourage all Deltans to lend the same support to the incoming administration. I wish to reiterate the fact that all hands should be on deck to ensure that Delta State exploits its full potentials.

I want to remind His Royal Highness, that as the father of all, you are the symbol of the people’s custom and tradition, including the hub around which the socio-economic life of this community revolves. I wish to advise, therefore, that all forms of sectionalism, partiality, discrimination and favouritism be eschewed in your day-to-day administration. With the benefit of the advantage of your background, you would note that your achievements will depend largely on the quality of  cooperation and goodwill of the generality of the people. In this regard, I will continue to request for your relentless efforts at sustaining peace and security of lives and property in your domain for the good of all.

Since the choice of the Okpara-Uku was popularly made, I urge the people of Orogun and all residents of this community to extend every respect and honour due to His Royal Highness to him at all times. You should strive to cooperate with him and offer every necessary assistance and advice, to enable him carry out his duties without let or hindrance.

His Royal Highness, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, it is now my honour to present the Staff of Office to His Royal Highness, Efeurhobo Eyefia 1, as the Okpara-Uku of Orogun Kingdom.

I sincerely pray that the Almighty God will grant you good health, long life and wisdom in the onerous challenges of the throne. May your reign usher in peace, progress and development to Orogun Kingdom and entire humanity.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
