SAME SEX MARRIAGE IS UNLAWFUL IN NIGERIA SAYS GOVERNOR OKOWA OF DELTA STATE

The Governor Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has said Nigeria took the right steps by having laws against same sex marriage.
Speaking when members of the state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba, Senator Okowa stated, “on same sex marriage, Nigeria has taken a position, the National Assembly has passed a law prohibiting it which was signed into law.”
“Nigeria has taken the right part when it comes to same sex marriage,” the Governor said adding that it was important for Nigerians to always have their trust in God to enable them succeed in their actions.
The Governor urged the church leaders to use their different denominations to enlighten the people of the programmes of government especially in the area of job creation stating that his administration will not derail in ensuring prosperity for all Deltans.
According to him, “we stand by our promises of providing prosperity for all Deltans, though we are being slowed down by the huge debt challenges we face as a state and as a nation, we will be transparent, fair, just and equitable in whatever we do, forms for the empowerment programmes are available online because we don’t want to hear about anybody hijacking the process.”
“We want you to use our churches to educate our people on how to collect the forms, a committee will go round the senatorial districts to conduct interviews, we want to provide opportunity for all Deltans to participate in the programmes,” he said, disclosing, “to empower our people further, we sent a bill on Technical and Vocational Education which the House of Assembly has passed, we want to return back to technical and vocational education to allow our children to acquire technical and entrepreneurial skills to make them self-sustainable.”
He added, “we will soon constitute a Board to run our technical schools and vocational centres to train our children in skill acquisition, the church has a lot of roles to play, the traditional institution has a lot of roles to play, we have to actively build a peaceful society and prosperous society.”
On the suspension of civil service recruitment, the Governor explained that it was not a punitive measure but, situation arose because of the financial situation of the state asserting that while some states in the South-South has less than 20, 000 workforce, Delta State has over 60, 000 with a huge wage bill despite the dwindling resources accruable to the state.
Earlier, Chairman of CAN, Delta State, Rev. Gideon Oyibo said CAN was ready to partner with Government to enable it deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
Immediate past Senior Special Adviser to the Delta State Government on Religious Matters, Rev. Godspower Agbuduta lauded Governor Okowa for kicking against same sex marriage, observing that gay marriage is un-African and anti-Christian.
“Nigeria is a disciplined nation, homosexuality is not of God, the entire Christian race don’t believe in that and I thank our Governor for taking a stand on the issue,” he said.
Prayers were offered for the Governor, Delta State and Nigeria at the occasion which was also attended by the Chairman of CAN, South South District, Bishop God-do-Well Avwomakpa.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
