GOVERNOR OKOWA RE-ASSURES CIVIL SERVANTS OF PROMPT SALARY

The Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, says that payment of civil servants’ salaries in the state as and when due remains a top priority of his administration, despite the current economic quagmire plaguing the state and Nigeria in general.
Governor Okowa stated this when he played host to the executive members of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) from the South East, South-South, and South-West geographical zones in the country in Asaba.

Festus Agas, the governor reiterated the commitment of the present administration to the welfare of civil servants in the state, saying that “they are the vehicles to drive the programmes and policies of the state government towards actualizing the SMART Agenda.
He said the state would stop at nothing in sustaining its Labour-friendly disposition in order to promote industrial harmony n the state.
“We will continue to promote a cordial relationship with the organized labour in the state. We cannot toy with the organized labour in the state. Their welfare is our concern”.
While wishing the members of a NCSU successful deliberation, he enjoined them to advise civil servants on punctuality and to be more committed to their duties so as to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Comrade O. B. Ajai, said they were in the state for a meeting of members of NCSU from the southern part of the country, saying that it was necessary to pay a courtesy call on the governor and inform him of their mission in the state.
He congratulated the governor on his victory at the Supreme Court, describing the verdict of the Apex Court as the beauty of democracy and affirmation of Governor Okowa’s victory in the April 11, 2015 election in the state.
He equally commended the governor for being labour-friendly and for regular payment of workers’ salary, just as he condemned, in strong terms, the sacking of no fewer than 3,000 workers in Imo State by Governor Rochas Okorocha, describing it as evil, wickedness and man’s inhumanity to man.
He assured the governor of the unflinching support of the organized labour in the state in his determination to bring prosperity to all Deltans in line with the SMART Agenda.
Also speaking, the chairman, Delta State Council of NCSU, Comrade (Elder) Tony Toki, commended the governor on the successful implementation of YAGEP and STEP entrepreneurship skill acquisition programmes and Comrade Mike Okeme, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour and Industrial Relations for effective representation of workers in the state, saying that “when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice”.
