EDUCATION, ROADS RECEIVE HIGHEST ALLOCATION IN PROPOSED 2017 DELTA STATE BUDGET

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has earmarked the sum of one hundred and nineteen billion, one million naira (N119.001bn) for capital expenditure for the 2017 fiscal year with road infrastructure billed to gulp the sum of N35 billion despite the economic down turn in the country, According to him, “a total sum of N35.188 billion is allocated to road infrastructure in the 2017 fiscal year and because, “technical and vocational education is at the core of our educational policy, which emphasises skills acquisition as against certificate acquisition, the sum of N900 million is earmarked to strengthen Vocational and Technical Education in the State during the 2017 fiscal year.” Governor Okowa noted that though, paucity of funds hampered the provision of infrastructure in the implementation of the 2016 budget, “in the first year of our administration, we constructed and completed 55 road projects covering over 148 kilometres (including 113 kilometres of concrete...

GOVERNOR OKOWA PRESENTS N270.91BN BUDGET FOR 2017 TO DELTA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The Governor of Delta, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has presented a budget proposal of N270.91billion for 2017 to the State House of Assembly. Okowa said N151.909 billion of the amount was for Recurrent Expenditure, while Capital Expenditure stood at N119.001 billion. He said the 2016 budget christened: “Budget of Fiscal Consolidation and Continued Progress’’ showed a marginal increase of N2.731 billion when compared to the 2016 approved budget of N268.169 billion. Okowa said the country could not reap the benefit of the oil benchmark $38 per barrel because the nation could not sustain the 2.2mbpd crude oil production target as a result the activities of militants in the Niger Delta which has also continued to impact negatively on the state's Internally Generated Revenue. So many people felt down and sleepy having not slept all night following the 2016 US election results. The Wednesday was a wash for many as they mourned Secretary Clinton’s and her loss. I congratulate Mr. Trump and his Nigerian-Americans and other supporters on their victory. Winning does not make their agenda as advertised right but it shows that Americans bought their manifesto of making America Great Again. We shall see. What makes Trump victory so great is the level of the opposition he faced and defeated. He did not just beat the Democrats he also beat the Republicans. The Republican establishment opposed him just as vigorously as did the Democrats. No well-known Republican campaigned for him. DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT TO REHABILITATE THE FAILED PORTIONS OF EKU/ABRAKA/AGBOR FEDERAL ROAD, OTHERS

The Delta State Government has put machineries in place to rehabilitate the failed portions of the road. In a bid to alleviate the untold hardship being experienced by motorists plying the Eku-Abraka-Agbor Road. The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, disclosed this in Asaba. He said though it is a federal road, the State government decided to work on the road in the interest of our people.  Also approved is the contract for the rehabilitation/asphalt overlay of Ekakpamre/Ekrokpe/Usiefurun Road in Ughelli South and Udu local government areas and the rehabilitation and resealing of Alihiame/Aliagwai/Aliokpo/Agbor-Nta road in Ika South local government area. The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Friday said he had no hands in the ongoing judicial scandal against Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi.
