GOVERNOR OKOWA’S SMART AGENDA ON COURSE, SAYS OVIE AGAS, DELTA SSG

The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Hon. Barrister Festus Ovie Agas, has said that in line with its policy thrust of bringing prosperity to all Deltans, the SMART Agenda of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration in Delta State is on course.
Hon. Agas stated this during a press conference on the activities of his office and the achievements of the present administration in the last 18 months at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
The SSG, who gave an overview of the activities of his office as the engine room of government to include guiding and moderating the activities of government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as ensuring that the policies and programmes of government are executed and implemented for the overall benefit of the citizens, among others, affirmed that the state government will stop at nothing in delivering the dividends of democracy to the door steps of the people.
“Mindful of the vision of the state government as encapsulated in the SMART Agenda, the present administration has continued to re-energize and strengthen the machinery of governance with the office of the Secretary to the State Government acting as the administrative hub and clearing house for effective coordination and implementation of the ensuing policies and programmes”.
While saying that so far he has continued to carry out the obligations entrusted to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government by ensuring effective and efficient realization of the goals and objectives of the state government, he recalled with gladness that immediately after assumption of office, the governor sent four bills.
The bills are Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Bill 2015, Technical and Vocational Education Board bill 2015, Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency bill 2015 and A bill repealing the hitherto DESOPADEC law and strengthening it to make it more responsive to the aspirations of the oil producing communities.
He said that in keeping to the governor’s campaign promise to create jobs for the teeming youth population, the state government established the novel Office of Chief Job Creation Officer to train and retrain the large army of unemployed youths in the state with a view to enhancing opportunities for creativity and self-improvement, especially within the sub-urban and rural socio-economic space of the State.
The SSG reiterated the commitment of the state government in providing the enabling environment for investors to invest in the state, saying that in line with the Peace Building Platform aimed at poetical/social stability component of the SMART Agenda, the state government had taken proactive steps in resolving disputes and nipping crises in the bud.
He commended journalists for publishing government programmes and activities and enjoined Deltans to continue to support the Governor Okowa administration for a prosperous and better Delta State.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
