The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has called on Nigerians to work towards peace and security at all times. The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Barrister Festus Ovie Agas, made the call today at the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal in Asaba. He appealed to all Nigerians to work towards peace and security at all times, “as we pay respect to our fallen heroes, we should also use the period to reflect on the need to avoid future violent conflicts in society by doing everything possible to promote peace and harmony at all times”.
The Governor said: “I call on all Nigerians to embrace dialogue and avoid provocative utterances and actions that can create tension in the country. We owe it as a duty to our nation and generations unborn, to always seek the path of peace, equity and justice. Above all, we should all opt for dialogue and consistent communication, which often reduce tension and the likelihood of violence”.

Noting further that one of the ways we can appreciate the sacrifices of our fallen heroes and veterans, is by making generous donations to the emblem appeal. He encouraged all Deltans to procure and wear the emblem with pride throughout the remembrance period, as this would show that we appreciate the sacrifices of our fallen heroes and veterans and also assure those still serving that their services to the fatherland will never be forgotten.

He appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations to buy and wear the emblem with pride throughout the period of the celebration. The Governor commended our armed forces and the other security forces for their display of unalloyed loyalty and commitment to Nigeria in their difficult task to keep Nigeria safe and united. In performing their duties, some of these gallant officers and men paid the supreme price. To these gallant men and women, we pay special tribute and pray for the repose of their souls.
