The Secretary to the Delta State government, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, has called on political appointees from Delta central senatorial district to be good ambassadors of the SMART agenda of the State government in their various wards and local government.

Hon. Festua Agas, made the call today at an interactive meeting with all the political appointees from Delta central senatorial district, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba. The SSG noted that the State government under Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done and is still doing so much across the State in terms of infrastructure development and empowerment, despite the lean revenue.

Barrister Agas emphasized that the present administration came into office at a time of dire economic crisis and recession and subsequent fall in the statutory revenue from the federation accounts. He pointed out that the fall in revenue was worsened by the resurgence of militancy and the vandalism of pipelines in the State. Pointing out that it is only the application of prudence and best practices in finance management by Governor Okowa that has seen the State through these trying times. He stated that sometimes, he is bewildered at the number capital projects, which are either completed or nearing completion across the State.

He enjoined the appointees to be good ambassadors, who should use their different offices to promote and project the activities and programmes of the State government at their various wards and local governments. He also charged them to always carry along all their constituents, especially party members who were not lucky enough to be appointed. He advised all the political appointees to work sincerely together as a team.

The meeting was attended by several commissioners, including Chief David Edevbie, Chief James Augonye, John Nani, Joyce Overah, Chief Mrs. Mary Iyasere and Special Advisers: Hon. Aguariavwodo, Joseph Otirue. DESOPADEC commissioners: POC Ovbije, Amos Itiwhe among others.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
