NO INFIGHTINGS IN IJAW NATIONAL CONGRESS

Our attention has been drawn to insinuations of purported infighting within the National Executive Council of the Ijaw National Congress (INC). These insinuations reference two press statements issued on Monday, August 5th, 2024:

"Tinubu's failure to address protesters' demands worrisome" by Engr. Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha, INC National Publicity Secretary; Vanguard Newspapers Online;

"INC hails Tinubu for addressing Nigerians amidst Protest" by Professor Benjamin Okaba, INC President; Punch Newspapers Online.

It is important to clarify that while the INC President focused on the intent of the Presidential Address, the Publicity Secretary addressed the content of the same speech.

The two statements are neither contradictory nor conflicting but rather complementary. In fact, it was the President of the INC who directed the Publicity Secretary to issue his statement as a follow-up to his own. Those who have attempted to create discord within the INC have merely skimmed the headlines of the two statements without conducting a thorough analysis of their intent.

To emphasize, the INC Publicity Secretary's statement aligns with the INC President’s statement and was authorized by the President after both offices agreed on the direction of the INC's responses to media inquiries about President Tinubu’s speech and other related matters.

We jointly call on all well-meaning Ijaw people to disregard the rumors of irreconcilable disagreements between the President, the Publicity Secretary, and other members of the NEC. As human beings from different backgrounds, it is natural to hold different views and even to disagree in a non-disagreeable manner.

Those familiar with the theory of dialectical materialism understand that conflict, which is universal and ubiquitous, when properly managed, is essential for progress in every human society.

We therefore urge the Ijaw people to emulate the patriotic Ijaw sons and daughters who seek solutions to issues rather than causing more harm through cheap blackmail.

Thank you.

Signed,

Prof. Benjamin Okaba

President, INC

Engr. Ezonebi Oyakemeagbegha

Publicity Secretary, INC

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

Obarisi, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege arrived Osubi Airport flanked by Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Hon. Eric Oharisi and Hon. Evance Iwhurie.
