TURN-BY-TURN: Who Says Oborevwori's Brother Can't Be Delta Sports Commission Chairman? - By Zik Gbemre

In my opinion, Onoriode 'Onos' Oborevwori is free to campaign for the position of Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, appointed by his elder brother, Gov. Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

I have heard that during the recently concluded National Youth Sports Festival at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba, many young girls were seen wearing T-shirts with the slogan "Onos Oborevwori for Chairman of Delta Sports Commission."

There is no law preventing the relatives of the Delta State Governor from vying for any position within the state. Former Governor Okowa appointed his daughter as one of his aides without issue. Similarly, Uduaghan appointed his brother-in-law, Amaju Pinnick, as Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission.

Okowa also appointed his younger brother, Tonobok, as Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission. Amaju Pinnick's appointment by his in-law, Emmanuel Uduaghan, elevated him to an international level, and he has since become a multi-billionaire, with his wealth spread across the globe.

Recently, media reports indicated that Pinnick owns multi-billion naira farms in Oyo State. His wealth grew rapidly, thanks to his time at the Delta Sports Commission. Likewise, Tonobok Okowa is now considered one of the richest people in Nigeria. Clearly, it’s turn-by-turn.

It’s now Oborevwori’s turn to appoint his younger brother and allow him to accumulate wealth as usual. Oborevwori didn’t start this trend – it's a tradition among Delta’s governors. In fact, sports in Delta State should have been a full ministry or department, but Uduaghan likely found it easier to control finances by establishing a commission instead.

The Delta State Sports Commission has effectively become a family business, beginning with Uduaghan, continuing with Okowa, and now with Oborevwori. Past governors, with the exception of Ibori, have treated the commission as a private enterprise.

Oborevwori isn’t doing anything new, as I see it.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
