DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT: Building Bridges of Development in Udu and Beyond

In the spirit of transparency, equity, and democratic accountability, the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori continues to set a high standard for inclusive governance. The administration remains firmly committed to development without bias, regardless of electoral outcomes.

Development Beyond the Ballot Box

In the 2023 elections, Udu Local Government Area offered limited electoral support to the Oborevwori-led administration. Yet, rather than withholding development, the government has doubled down on its pledge to serve every community in Delta State. This approach underscores a vital principle: leadership is about service, not scorekeeping.

Governor Oborevwori’s administration refuses to be distracted by politically motivated protests or misinformation campaigns. Young people, in particular, are encouraged to seek the truth and verify government projects in their communities before engaging in baseless and ill-motivated propaganda.

Udu LGA: A Hub of Strategic Investment

Despite political dynamics, Udu LGA has emerged as a major beneficiary of impactful government projects across infrastructure, healthcare, education, and public utilities. These include:

🛣️ Infrastructure and Road Connectivity

With over 27.8km of roads and 24km of drainage systems either newly constructed or rehabilitated, Udu is undergoing a transformation in mobility and economic accessibility. Key projects include:

DSC Roundabout Flyover Project – reshaping the urban landscape.

Rehabilitation of CAC and Bezi Roads – easing traffic flow in Aladja.

Ekakpamre–Ekrokpe–Usiefrun–Orhuwhorun Road – a strategic link between Udu and Ughelli South LGAs.

Opete Road Reconstruction – improving access from Plantation City to Opete Waterside.

Strategic inner-city roads – including Awharode Street, Dickey Street, and Chief Godwin Okporoko Crescent.

Aladja–Ogbe-Ijoh Road (Phases I & II) – with Phase II already approved and at the procurement stage.

These road projects not only improve transportation but also stimulate local commerce, create jobs, and boost real estate value.

🏥 Revitalizing Healthcare

Healthcare is also receiving a significant boost. The State government is investing ₦4.8 billion in the Udu Harbour Market, which will feature 230 shops, a modern abattoir, night lighting, and security infrastructure.

Additional improvements in healthcare include:

The renovation of four primary healthcare centers in Udu.

The supply of a 4D ultrasound machine to the General Hospital, Otor-Udu, enhancing maternal and general diagnostic services.

📚 Transforming the Education Landscape

Governor Oborevwori’s administration is redefining public education in Udu with modern facilities and major renovations:

A state-of-the-art JAMB ICT Centre at Ogbe-Udu Secondary School, providing students with access to advanced digital and examination tools.

Comprehensive renovations at:

Okolor Waterside Primary School

Owhrode Secondary School

Ekete Secondary School

Ogbe-Udu Secondary School

At Aladja Grammar School, three- and six-classroom blocks with offices and toilet facilities are under construction.

Otor-Udu Secondary School now features a renovated three-classroom block, examination hall, and improved sanitation.

These investments are laying a solid foundation for academic excellence and youth development.

💡 Power and Street Lighting

To enhance safety and extend business hours, the state government has:

Installed a 500KVA transformer along the Orhuwhorun–Usiefrun Road.

Replaced solar-powered streetlights in Ukpiovwin Town and Ogbe-Udu, improving nighttime security and illumination.

Development Without Discrimination

As Commissioner Aniagwu aptly stated, “Development is a duty, and we are fulfilling that duty in Udu and beyond.” The administration’s actions prove that progress isn’t reserved for political strongholds, it is the right of every citizen.

He also cautioned residents to remain vigilant against misinformation aimed at discrediting the government. “Our work will always speak louder than misinformation,” he asserted, encouraging all Deltans to judge the administration by its visible, verifiable achievements.

Conclusion: A Model of Responsible Governance

The Oborevwori administration’s investments in Udu LGA are not mere political gestures, they reflect a broader philosophy of fairness, inclusion, and purposeful governance. By staying focused on service delivery over distractions, the Delta State Government continues to chart a course of unity, accountability, and sustainable growth.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to building a Delta State where every community, regardless of political affiliation, shares in the dividends of democracy. That vision is alive and unfolding, one road, school, hospital, and transformer at a time.
