Gunmenn

Three gunmen on a motor cycle have last Friday evening, killed a commissioner with Zamfara state local government service commission, Alhaji Yusif Garba in his residence at Ungwar Zabarma of Tudun Wada area of the state capital, Gusau, and escaped without robbing money from the victim.
An eyewitness said three gunmen on a motorbike arrived the residence of the deceased at about 9 pm and asked somebody they met at the main entrance to notify him that some guests have come to see him outside.

When the unsuspecting victim came out of the house, one of the gunmen told him that they were armed robbers and that he should bring out money to save his life, while the other two went inside the residence and bullied his wife to produce gold items.

When they could not get anything from the victims, the three gunmen regrouped outside the residence and again pressed for money from the deceased, and when he could not yield to the demand, one of the gunmen shot him on the chest while another shot him on the lower abdomen.
It was gathered that neighbours were so scared by the sound of the gunshots that no one dared to help. The operation which lasted for about 20 minutes while the gunmen were said to have escaped untraced.

The state governor, Alhaji Yari Abubakar who paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, regretted that in the face of the prevailing insecurity in the country, “no one’s safety is guaranteed”. He expressed worry that the situation is so alarming that it can be a serious threat to the survival of our society.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
