Yesterday morning, March 17, a ghastly motor accident took lives of six persons and several others were seriously injured in Warri, Delta State.
This accident had been described as the worst in recent times since the January auto crash in which 16 persons were burnt to death in a Delta State-owned shuttle bus along the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Road in Effurun.
It was gathered that the occupants of the car, who were mainly youths, were coming from a night outing when the incident happened.
According to the report, the vehicle was coming from the Okuokoko axis, approaching the popular Delta Steel Company (DSC) Road, when the driver suddenly made a U-turn to go to the other side of the road an action that led an on-coming vehicle crashed into the car.
The victims of the car accident were removed with the help of axes and iron rods, as the car broke into two due to the intensity of the impact of the crash. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, though, some of them died before the rescue operation began.
As there was a gridlock on the road, several vehicles were destroyed by an angry mob which also capitalised on the confusion to rob people at gunpoint.
