Ebikeme Igangan (26), a member of a local vigilance group in Delta State, along with his co-accused, Ovwigho Udjor (36) a welder, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the state High Court in Warri for robbing a female shop owner of goods worth over N3 million and also raping her cousin, a member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The men were found guilty of the three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and rape levelled against them. Ebikeme is a native of Ogbe-Ijaw in Warri South Local Government Area while Udjor of Jesse hails from Ethiope West Council with 3 of their accomplice had, robbed a manager of a popular shop inside the Shell Yard of various valuables including two laptop computers, jewellery, five Nokia handsets, a Motorola Blade handset, and cash of N2.8 million in December 2010 at Shell, Ogunu within the Warri Judicial Division.
After the robbery, the convicts with his gang proceeded to the victim’s house near the Shell Yard and raped the cousin of the victim who went for a visit at the time of the incident.
