In an attempt to create a free flow of information from the grassroots to the state government and an effective feedback system, Delta state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has commissioned complaints/information desks in the state local governments.

The desks, according to the Governor’s Special Adviser on Political Matters (Delta North), Omordi George Ugbomah, would aid his boss feel the pulse of the people about the impact of his administration and in a bid to finish strong next year, just as plans are underway to replicate the initiative in the three senatorial districts of the State.

Ugbomah said with the introduction of the two-way information process, the hitherto impression of the people at the grassroots level about government would change from viewing governance in the bad light to accepting to offer suggestions and information on how to attract water, roads, schools, hospitals, housing projects and other basic amenities to their communities.

Meanwhile, the Delta state Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah, who flagged-off the system in Asaba on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 on behalf of the state governor, said the desk would serve as a feedback mechanism, hence information is key to the growth and development of any state or nation but lack of it destroys the society.

He noted that aside the synergy it would provide between the people and government, “it will enhance democratic practice.” “We need information as this point of our political life. It will enable us to know the areas where we need to work harder, to those to lead us and those who have no capacity to deliver. The responses you will get from thise initiative will make you to know that the government of His Excellency, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, is ready to work with you.”
Ogeah lauded the initiator to the project, describing it as not only apt but instructive for those who would not die for lack of knowledge.

In a goodwill message, the Governor’s Communication Manager, Paul Odili, was categorical that the initiative would not only reduce rumour mongering and criminal activities in the state, but will serve as another means of inter/intra ethnic dispute resolution.

While receiving the desks, the local government council bosses said they would put the facilities to good use and further enlighten the people at the grassroots on how to make their inputs in governance and to the well being of all Deltans.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
