THERE was confusion in Osun, on Tuesday, when dynamites suspected to have been planted by unknown persons exploded in Ile-Ife, causing apprehension and chaos in the city.
Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that the development culminated in fear among the residents of Agbedegbede in the town.
Credible source informed the Nigerian Tribune that the dynamites, which exploded around 4.30 a.m, was allegedly planted by unknown terrorists.
The deafening sound and impact of the explosion were said to have destroyed some buildings around the vicinity.
However, the cause of the explosion could not be ascertained as of the time this report was being filed, but another source hinted that the dynamite explosion might have emanated from quarry operators.
Officers of the bomb disposal unit of the Osun State police command were also spotted trying to comb the scene, while the area was cordoned off for investigation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Maishanu, who carried out on-the-spot assessment of the scene, described as untrue and baseless, the rumour that it was a bomb explosion.
Speaking in a telephone chat with journalists, he said the explosion was a minor one, assuring that the police would ensure adequate security of lives and property.
