GOVERNOR UDUAGHAN SAYS DELTA TELEVISION, ASABA IS UNDERGOING DIGITALIZATION

*Governor at the press briefing

The Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, at a press briefing on Friday thanked journalists in the State for their partnership with the State government. He noted that it is understandable that not all commentary can be positive.
The Governor pointed out that at the national level the challenge of Boko Haram remains and that as country the effect of instability in the North East is felt across the nation, because more Northerners are moving towards the South as internally displaced people. He said that inasmuch as the State would try to accommodate law abiding citizens coming in, the State government would not tolerate illegal immigrants, whose mission in the State was questionable. He asked the Nigerian Immigration Service to fish out illegal immigrants in the State and deport them to their respective countries.

Dr. Uduaghan advised Deltans to be security conscious by knowing their neighbours and take interest in cars, including packages carelessly left around their premises. He emphasized that landlords should know their tenants.
Other security challenge in the State has to do with inter-ethnic violence in the  Ndokwa axis, although there is some quiet in those areas now, he nonetheless said that a committee of inquiry will soon be set up to look into the crisis. There is also some security challenge in Warri South West but government is on the matter to make sure that the gas city comes on stream.
On infrastructure, the Governor noted that in the rainy season most of the Niger Delta is prone to flood, this is particularly more serious in this part of the State, because of the terrain, but that the State government is redesigning the drainage from Okpanam to accommodate the dualization of the Okpanam road. He called on Deltans to be patient with the State government. Dr. Uduaghan emphasized the fact that his administration cannot finish tarring all roads in the State or rehabilitate all schools in one fell swoop. It is therefore be on ethical for critics to pick on one school not rehabilitated among the many already given facelift, as a basis to declare government as not performing.
The Governor noted that the philosophy behind school renovation was to take an entire school at once but due lack of classrooms in some schools government is now forced to take block of classrooms for renovation in such schools.
Dr. Uduaghan assured that the work on the flyover bridges will definitely be completed before the end of the administration. Regarding the Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba, he noted that the station is undergoing digitalization and that the progress of work is encouraging. He further pointed out that the process is on to link the three broadcast stations in the State. The Governor clarified the role of Tony Iredia in DBS as being that of a trainer of staff of the broadcast service.
On the forthcoming local government elections, he pointed out that he has not anointed any candidates in the PDP but that the leaders at the various level are encouraged to seek for consensus, wherever possible. He also noted that the PDP remains the main political party in the State and country in general. So far across the State, the candidates of the PDP are the only ones going round to canvass and sensitize the people towards the local government elections, so if they win, the opposition should not cry foul.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
