President Jonathan played host to the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, after breaking the Ramadan fast with traditional rulers at the State House on Wednesday. The Sultan of Sokoto was also at the State House to pump fists with the President, but it was Sanusi’s wide grin with President Jonathan that caught the eye given their not-so-friendly recent past.
Sanusi was deposed from office as Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor after being slammed with tons and tons of words bordering on financial recklessness. Onlookers didn’t miss the fact that the Governor’s whistle blowing act of accusing the state run oil company of frittering some cool $20bn must have done him in.
Deposed and with his tail in his legs, the former CBN Governor took his case against the President to court.
By some stroke of fate, Sanusi was handpicked as the new Emir of Kano following the passing of the old Emir and soon after, dropped his case against the President.
Yesterday, they smiled and laughed into the cameras for us all to see.
Hatchet buried? What do you think?
What do expect? The man is quite happy to meet with and resolve issues with the president. Forget about those boasting and the many noise, he want to be relevant in the scheme of things. Let's not go into his atrocities in First bank and CBN. Let sleeping dog lie.
