GOVERNOR UDUAGHAN SAYS NO MERCY FOR DEFECTORS IN DELTA PDP PRIMARIES

AS HE URGES DELTANS TO GO FOR THEIR PERMANENT  VOTER’S CARDS

There will be no mercy for you in Delta State PDP, if you decide to join other party, if you do not get the ticket of the party for the forthcoming local government elections in the State. But I will want to let you know that it is better for you to stay in PDP than defecting to other party after our primaries.”

Those were the words of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State today in Warri at a meeting with PDP stakeholders in Delta Central Senatorial district.
The Governor said; “The meeting has become necessary because of our forthcoming local government elections which we are supposed to be holding the Primaries this weekend. And the meeting is to admonish all of us that we should continue to maintain the existing peace.”
“In terms of party activities, a lot of campaigns and meetings are going on, to see how we can get our candidates to know that with this election process that we are doing now, we should be able to arrive at credible candidate that can carry our party flag and win elections at the local government level as Chairmen and councilors,” he stated.
The governor added that; “If you look at the field now, it’s only PDP that is eventually on the field in terms of selection of candidates and it’s not possible for all of us to agree on the same thing but once the majority agrees, I believe that the minority should close up and let us see how we can carry our party flag to victory.”
Governor Uduaghan also said that; “I am aware that there are people who are just waiting on the sideline, that if we don’t get the ticket in PDP, we will go to another party to get it. If you do that, I am sorry for you because you might get the ticket there but it will be difficult for you to win the election at the local government level. It is therefore advisable that you struggle within the party to get the PDP ticket.”
“I know some people will take me up and say, I have said that another party cannot win local government election. I am talking as a PDP leader in Delta State and I do not owe any apology. I am here because PDP put me here and whatever I say when it comes to issues of elections, I have to say it on behalf of PDP. For administration here and general things, I cover everybody but when it comes to party issues, I am a PDP member to the core. We are working hard and we shall win the elections freely and very squarely,” the Governor added.
According to him, “the meeting was also to mobilize us and our people for the forth coming collection of voter’s card which will start on the 15th August. Now it is as crucial as Registration for voters because what the exercise means is that you will bring your temporary voter’s card and collect the permanent one after thumb printing. Nobody will collect the voter’s card by proxy that means if you are not there, you are not there and you will not get the voter’s card. So it is a very serious exercise.”
“That is why I thought I should let everybody know because it is a very serious exercise because if you are winning any election whether local government, state, federal or whatever; it depends on your voter’s card. So it is for us to mobilize our people, families and party members to go and collect their permanent voter’s card because that is the only way you can win election. Please it is very important and it is starting on the 15th of August,” he added.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
