It can be authoritatively disclosed that the cordial relationship among the legislature, executive and judiciary as well as maintenance of separation of powers in Delta state has remained exemplary.
This stride was further put to test on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, when Delta state witnessed an uncommon feat with the State House of Assembly, passing a vote of implicit confidence on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for his policies and programmes geared towards the upliftment of the state and its people.
The lawmakers also passed a confidence vote on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, for the collaborative effort with the governor towards promoting the wellbeing of Deltans.
It could also be recalled that the Judiciary in Delta State was recently granted financial autonomy by the State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, when he signed the Delta State Judiciary Financial Autonomy Bill into law on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, thereby ensuring the complete independence of the third arm of government.
The Delta House of Assembly however dispelled rumour of impeachment notice against Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as being peddled in some quarters, saying the vote of confidence passed on him was an affirmation that such moves was never an issue in the house.
The vote of implicit confidence passed on the duo stemmed from a motion of Matters of Urgent Public Importance moved by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Prince Johnson Erijo and seconded by the member representing Warri South Constituency 11, Hon (Barr) Dennis Omovie.
The motion which came at a time when the excellent performance of the Governor Uduaghan’s administration had again been acknowledged by one of the most critical voice in the media industry, The Leadership Newspapers, was unanimously supported by the house presided upon by the Speaker, Hon. Peter Onwusanya.
Leading debate on the motion, Hon Erijo, noted that the vote of implicit confidence on the Governor is apt on the day he was been honoured by the Leadership Newspapers as the Leadership Newspaper “Governor of the Year” Award.
According to him, “the Governor has effectively used his three-point agenda to touch all facets of the economy for even development of the state in the past seven years of his administration”.
He said the Governor’s giant strides in the socio-economic development of the state for the past seven years are noticeable in all facets of the economy, saying the house has always passed the Appropriation Bills brought before it in record time to bring the Governor’s vision to fruition.
Hon Erijo who spoke alongside his colleagues, including: Tim Owhefere, Samuel Mariere, Rufus Akpodiete and Joseph Oshevire, said Governor Uduaghan’s vision of Delta beyond Oil capable of creating industrial revolution in the state which the Federal Government has also keyed into was another way of guaranteeing the future of Deltans through gainful employment.
While saying members of the house would continue to support the Governor’s policy of developing Delta Beyond Oil, Hon. Erijo, commended the Speaker, Hon. Onwusanya, for his “all-inclusive” administration in the Fifth Assembly.
In an interview shortly after plenary, most legislators, including Hon. Erijo, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Information, dispelled rumour of impeachment notice on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, describing the report as frivolous and handiwork of the enemies of the State.
