DELTA 2015: PDP CLEARS TONY CHUCKS OBUH TO RUN

The leading aspirant in the 2015 Delta State Governorship race, Tony Chucks Obuh has been given the official nod by the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to contest in the forthcoming primary elections of the party in Delta State. The former Permanent Secretary was cleared by the zonal screening committee of the party on Saturday, 22nd November, 2014 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital to fully participate in the December 8, 2014 governorship primaries.

Tony Chucks Obuh who was accompanied to the zonal secretariat of the party located along Aba road opposite the prestigious Presidential Hotel in the Rivers State capital by party elders, stakeholders and campaign coordinators. The immediate past permanent secretary, Government House and Protocol arrived at the party office and was warmly received by a large crowd of party faithful and supporters.

This clearance puts to bed speculations that Tony Chucks Obuh was not qualified to contest the 2015 governorship election on the platform of the party. Some detractors have in recent weeks been peddling rumours that Tony Obuh is not a registered member of the PDP. Some other reports suggested that the technocrat has not spent up to two years in the party and therefore will not be cleared to run. About two weeks ago, Tony Obuh submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to the National Secretariat of the party at Wadata Plaza in Abuja.

In a related development, the chances of Tony Obuh sweeping the PDP primaries in Delta State has been brightened as the National Working Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has accepted the result of the November 1 Ward Congress in Delta State. The party only nullified results of three States where there were serious complaints.

In a release signed by the publicity secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, the PDP said that “Following Complaints in the conduct of the Ward Congresses of November 1 in Cross River, Oyo and Lagos States, the National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting of Thursday, November 20, 2014 nullified the results of Congresses in those States. Consequently, the NWC has approved that repeat Ward Congresses be conducted in the aforementioned states on Monday, November 24, 2014.”

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
