DELTA 2015: EAST OR WEST TONY CHUCKS OBUH REMAINS OUR MAN

The only constant thing in life is change. Tomorrow, we begin the process of electing the next governor of our dear State. This is by no means a casual affair or one to be treated with levity. Our party, the Peoples' Democratic Party – PDP has a plethora of qualified men and women who can take our State to enviable heights. I am particularly pleased that we can select from this pool of men and women of passion and integrity and present them to Delta people to consolidate on our gains and indeed improve on our records.

Let me thank our party chieftains, elders and loyal members for how peacefully they conducted the State House of Assembly and National Assembly Primaries. Your conduct, which was exemplary, continues to set the tone for democracy, which guarantees the rights of all the people and their participation in their own governance.

By the grace of God our flag bearer is going to be Tony Chucks Obuh because we all agree on that. The choice of Tony Obuh is not singlehanded, but that of the PDP members in the Delta State. That does not mean that the others are not qualified. I respect their intellect.

For the sake of equity the party decided that its governorship ticket should go to Delta North senatorial district after that the Central and South Senatorial zones have produced Chief James Ibori and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as Governors for the past sixteen years by 2015 respectively. The caucus decided we should present Tony Chucks Obuh. It does not mean that he is more qualified than others. But somebody has to carry our flag.

I am very hopeful that Tony Obuh would sustain the legacies of this administration if elected governor. By the grace of God, very soon we will be walking behind him as he becomes the governor of the State.

Therefore as we choose our gubernatorial candidate tomorrow let us bear this in mind, while he will be our torchbearer, he cannot achieve anything by himself. He will need us. So we must all roll up our sleeves. The journey has begun and the work has started. No one can be a bystander and indeed no one should be a bystander. We must have all hands on deck. That is the only way can achieve our desired results.

This is the time for that change. We will fight with everything we have to deliver the State to PDP.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

The grand reception in the ancient city of Ughelli was historic, marking the recognition of a distinguished Deltan who has brought great honour to the state and its people. Obarisi, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege arrived Osubi Airport flanked by Distinguished Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Hon. Eric Oharisi and Hon. Evance Iwhurie. The streets of Ughelli came alive with jubilation as the former Deputy Senate President and his entourage drove into town.
