DR. OKOWA FELICITATES WITH DELTANS ON CHRISTMAS, URGES THEM TO REMAIN PEACEFUL AND UNITED

The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Governorship candidate for Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on Deltans, particularly Christians, to use the occasion of Christmas to re-dedicate themselves to the teachings of Jesus Christ, which focuses on love for one another, oneness and unity.

Senator Okowa, noted that "it is only when we continue to manifest the virtues of unfeigned humility, genuine love and sacrifice that we can truly lay claim to being true followers of Jesus Christ, whose teachings centre on love for one another."

He advised Christians against seeing Christmas celebration as mere ritual, but to see the occasion as time for deep sober reflection that should be used to re-appraise their relationship with the Almighty God and their fellow human beings.

Senator Okowa, while felicitating with Deltans, called on them to remain peaceful and committed to the development of the State. He urged Deltans to "use the occasion to reflect deeply on those things that unite us and work toward strengthening them."

He admonished all Deltans to remain focused in the pursuit of a better and prosperous Delta State, where all citizens are partakers of the benefit of good governance.

Senator Okowa reaffirmed his commitment to uplifting the lives of the people, while promising to continue the development of the State for the benefit of mankind building on the achievements recorded by previous administrations.

He enjoined Deltans to pray for peaceful elections in 2015, noting that 2015 will mark the beginning of greater things for the State and its people.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
