DELTA 2015: PDP CAMPAIGN RALLIES – A PENETRATION SO DEEP

As the political activities in Delta State moves to the climax with campaigns, the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP seems to cut the biggest short in Delta State and made the deepest political penetrations across the State in the build-up to the February, 2015 governorship election.

It all started last week, Tuesday 13, January, 2015, at Oghara Township Stadium which was filled to the brim with supporters overflowing the stadium to Warri/Benin highway. It was the day PDP formally and officially commenced their movement for actualization of the 2015 election.

The stadium which witnessed what can best be describe as a mammoth crowd of supporters and unprecedented in the history of campaign rallies in the State was attended by senior citizens of the State including national officers. The stadium, which was filled to capacity sent signal to those claiming that they will take over Government House from the ruling PDP on May 29 to have a re-think.

PDP campaign across the State is overwhelmed with the crowd that has welcomed them to all the local government headquarters so far visited. In all the stops, the campaign has seen mammoth crowd that have gathered within a short period of time. The crowd is so much that even the opposition admit that these are mothers of all campaign rallies ever assembled across Delta State. Speakers who addressed the rallies spoke on the strength of the PDP to retain the governorship seat in Delta State.

The rallies have afforded stakeholders and opinion leaders the opportunity to take stock and reflect on issues bordering on development of Delta State and Nigeria by extension, while they also drum support for President Jonathan’s re-election. But in all these, one thing stood the campaign out in the crowd of other parties and seekers of the governorship seat, as they engaged in issue based campaign devoid of propaganda, blackmail, and name calling.

The PDP candidate is a man of peace, a true religious person, which is the best for Delta State. And as a PDP man, Senator Okowa is the best and better positioned to transform the State. He is a man that has the capacity, competence, and experience. PDP members and former aspirants are all in the fray in backing and supporting Senate Okowa who is competent and capable enough to reposition the economy of the State and reduce over dependence on oil. Senator Okowa is the right man for the job at this time. PDP remains a family and all members of the party in spite of political differences belong to that family.

One thing is very significant in Senator Okowa’s campaign, he seems to know the entire problem and have all the solutions and how to develop the State. He has all the ideas and blueprint, he does not just move around to make promises but also tell the people how he will address the problem of job creation. His aggressive poverty alleviation ideas are not just about political campaign. To him, his vision is to create wealth and make life comfortable for the people.

It has been successful campaigns outing so far with assurance of victory come next month. Senator Okowa symbolizes hope for a better future.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
