The Government Delta State has given
contractors handling state projects four months ultimatum to complete their
projects, as it will embark on massive commissioning of projects before the end
of its tenure this year.
The State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon in a meeting with some major contractors in charge of bridges, fly-over and road projects across the State, especially those connecting communities, yesterday in his Asaba office, said that the completion of the on-going projects is a task that must be done.
‘‘The State Government’’ he said, ‘‘has directed that it will embark on massive commissioning of projects, you should fast tract your work, double your efforts, you must know that your good works will advertise your efficiency’’.
Hon. Funkekeme said that the determination of the government to complete all on-going projects according to specification was parts of its policy to finish strong and landing well before handing over the baton of leadership.
He stressed on the importance of returning to the project sites during the conducive period (dry season), adding that the contractors are well motivated financially and morally by the government, ‘‘you should please double your efforts to ensure the completion of the projects’’. His words, ‘‘double your efforts by increasing the numbers and qualities of your work force for work efficiency, because if your work is not qualitative, it will show before or after one year’’.
The Commissioner then urged them to ensure that they deliver quality and sustainable project in line with the advanced practice so that they could be recommended to the next administration, adding that Governor Uduaghan would soon commence unscheduled monitoring and evaluation of projects done so far.
While commending them for being partners in progress with the State government, he urged them to submit their revised work programmes on Wednesday, next as the ministry would commence un-scheduled monitoring and evaluation of projects done so far.
