MASSIVE TURNOUT AS PDP FLAG OFF GOVERNORSHIP CAMPAIGN RALLY AT OGHARA TOWNSHIP STADIUM

There was massive turnout of people at the Flag Off of PDP Governorship campaign rally for DELTA 2015 Governorship elections at the Oghara Township stadium, in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State today.  The crowd at the PDP Flag off rally led to the lock down of Oghara and the two lanes of the Warri-Benin highway.
The Warri-Benin highway and roads leading into Oghara and its environs experienced serious traffic congestion as early as 7:00 a.m. Some routes were blocked in order to restrict vehicular movements.
The people of Delta State came out massively to show their solidarity and overwhelming support to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa during the flagging-off campaign rally. The day’s activity started with the arrival of guests.
In his usual manner, Senator Okowa accompanied by his beautiful wife, Edith walked into the venue to meet the mammoth crowd. Shortly after, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire the Chairman of the Campaign Organization delivered the opening remarks. In his speech, he urged the people to massively vote for Senator Okowa, noting that Senator Okowa has always stood by the people of the State.
Consequently, goodwill messages rented the air through the podium from distinguished personalities. Leading the pack was the former Governor of Bayelsa State Alamiesegha who led the national delegation, Chief Cairo Ojugbo, PDP national vice chairman, South-south, Dr. Oru, Minister of Niger Delta Ministry, Prof. Amos Utuama, Deputy Governor among others.
High point of the occasion happened when Senator Ifeanyi Okowa mounted the rostrum along with the Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to deliver his speech. He thanked the people for turning out en-masse to support him. Having taken a tour of the LGA previously, he harped on sundry issues affecting the people directly with a promise to address and fix them.
However, there was also the ritual of flag handing over to candidates of the party who would be contesting elections into various elective offices. These were for Senatorial, Federal House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates.

Finally, there was the vote of thanks with the rally coming to a close after the closing prayer was said and the National Anthem.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
