In
the last one week the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan,
CON, performed the official commissioning of several roads across the State, from
Umunede/Mbiri road to Aradhe/Ushie/Ashaka road to Ashaka/Aboh roads and bridges
to Refinery road dualization, including to Ekiugbo/Ughelli dual carriage way
and street lights, Ovwor Olomu township roads and Umeh Road and bridge.
The
provision of roads infrastructure, no doubt stands out as an initiative that is
aimed at opening up and integrating various communities across the State with a
view to enhancing economic development.
The
policy target is the transformation of urban centres through the provision of
good road network that will enhance effective flow of traffic and the provision
of access roads in rural areas to ensure socio-political and economic
development; Integration of remote, rural and riverine communities to urban
centres through good roads and bridges, including the provision of effective
drainage systems to protect road networks and prevent flooding.
There
is also the support to Federal roads in the State, Governor Uduaghan said the
State Government has re-constructed and rehabilitated Federal roads in the State
to the tune of over N45billion that have been verified by the Federal Ministry
of Works as genuine claims. He said although the administration is winding
down, if they are unable to get the refund in this administration, the next
administration will receive it when the Federal Government eventually refunds
the money.
