GOVERNOR UDUAGHAN RENEWS COMMITMENT ON COMMISSIONING THE MASSIVE FLYOVER BRIDGES

The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan is on course to commissioning the flyover bridges in Asaba and Effurun. This follows the renewed commitment by the State government to actualize its ‘finishing strong’ mantra.

And for those who think Governor Uduaghan may not be able to finish the two gigantic flyover bridges being built by his administration in Asaba and Effurun, they will need to have a rethink. Reason! March 2015 is said to be the deadline for the two gigantic flyover bridges, which are currently undergoing heavy construction work. The State Works Commissioner, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, said the State government is doing everything possible to ‘finish strong’ in the area of infrastructural development, which includes building of roads and bridges.

Funkekeme, whose Ministry supervises every civil work in the State, including the ones done by other ministries, said that government was keen about its urban and rural road transportation system for ease of evacuation of agricultural products, movement of goods and services, including personnel from one point to the other.

According to him, the Ministry has taken steps to aid and assist Governor Uduaghan’s vision of leaving behind a legacy of dependable and sustainable road networks that will assist Delta State to a point where if there are no more oil resources, it can still attract investors and they can have our confidence.

So much progress has been made with the hope that by the end of March, 2015 the two flyover bridges in Asaba and Effurun will be completed for use by Deltans. The flyovers bridges would not only decongest traffic in Warri and Asaba, but would raise the urbanization standard of the cities so as to attract investors.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
