DELTA 2015: OPPOSITION PARTY SUPPORTERS VOW TO VOTE SENATOR IFEANYI OKOWA ON SATURDAY

All does not appear well in the political camp of the opposition parties in Delta State as thousands of grass root mobilizers, ward and unit officers of the parties have declared their support for the candidature of the PDP standard bearer, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. The Labour Party and APC party men and their supporters, who came together, made their position known on Tuesday when they paid a surprise visit to the PDP governorship candidate during his campaign in Eku and other places in Delta Central Senatorial district.

The leader of the groups explained that their decision to back Senator Okowa for the governorship seat was born out of an urgent need to align with the winning team. He said the groups are made up of people who feel neglected and abandoned after carrying the burden of building the political structure of the then All Progressive Congress and Labour Party in Delta State.

They noted that since their candidates emerged, they have been completely side-lined in the decision making and the activities of the parties. They complained that Ogboru and Otega came with their people from Lagos and did not regard the grassroots politicians who have toiled in the State.

They stressed that they have been begged to remain calm but said their final decision after series of meetings and consultations is to come under the umbrella of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) whom they are sure will definitely win on Saturday, April 11.

Receiving the group leaders and their supporters, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Delta State, Senator Okowa thanked them for taking the right decision to key behind the Senator Okowa/Otuaro governorship team. Senator Okowa said he was excited to welcome them to the fold and emphasized that the PDP is a big family for all Delta people.  He assured that their hopes and aspirations will be met in his government.

“Your coming to the PDP today is inspired by God and it is a sign that this State is on a pathway to unprecedented unity.  I warmly receive you with much love and appreciate your courage to take this step. I can assure you that this will be the final bus stop for all of you because we have outlined very sound blueprints that will guarantee jobs for our youthful population. You will be proud of your decision today and the stand which you have taken. Our party is committed to sustainable development and we will deliver on our promises”. Okowa enthused.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment.
