The
division within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) worsened on
Thursday, June 4, 2015 after lawmakers-elect elected on the platform of the
party boycotted a scheduled meeting with the party leadership.
The
National Publicity secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed had on Tuesday, June 2,
2015 issued a notice for the crucial meeting scheduled to hold at the
International Conference Centre, ICC, Abuja between 10 am and 2 pm.
Many
believe the meeting was called in order for the party leadership to unite the
different factions of lawmakers that have emerged as a result of the battle for
the leadership of the incoming 8th Senate, fearing that the Peoples Democratic
party (PDP) might play a fast one and capitalise on the in-house bickering and
present a candidate.
However,
sources close to the caucus of the APC lawmakers revealed to The Trent that the
legislators-elect chose to stay away from the meeting as they fear the party
leadership might want to “bully” them into supporting two particular candidates
for Senate president and House Speaker.
