GOVERNOR OKOWA RECEIVES PASTOR WILLIAM KUMUYI IN ASABA

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called on religious leaders to always counsel those in authority to enable them govern with the fear of God.
The Governor made the call on Wednesday in Asaba when the General Overseer of Deeper Life Bible Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi paid him a courtesy visit.
He noted that religious leaders have strong roles to play in ensuring good governance, stable polity and progressive society.
He urged religious leaders to continue to pray for the nation and give counseling to leaders in government, otherwise, they will derail,” adding that he thank God for the way Nigeria is progressing, as a nation, we need a lot of prayers and counseling.”
“Since 1999, we have been able to uphold democracy, transiting from one government to another. During the 2015 general elections, people were apprehensive but God proved Himself, I thank God for granting us peaceful elections and transition,” he said.
The Governor also, challenged religious leaders to make the youths embrace the gospel of Christ for a better society to be achieved, observing that there are a lot of challenges in the country today because, people are no longer adhering to the words of God.
He said, “we are glad you are in Delta State to teach the words of God, a lot of people will gain from you, a lot of people are putting Christ behind, especially the youths and it is not good, the more we teach the gospel, the better for the upbringing of the children and the nation.”
Senator Okowa further used the occasion to assure Deltans that he will govern with the fear of God and be accountable to the people. He called for patience and understanding among Deltans, reiterating that the prosperity agenda would be delivered to the good of the people.

Pastor Kumuyi, accompanied by his wife, Esther and a host of Pastors, said he was in Delta State for five days crusade and prayed for the Governor, his Deputy, the government and people of Delta State.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
