DELTA: POLICE RESCUES HOUSEWIFE FROM KIDNAPPERS

Nigeria-Police

The Police Command in Delta has said that it rescued a housewife abducted on June 30 in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the State. This is contained in a statement issued by DSP Celestina Kalu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, in Asaba on Saturday.

It stated that the victim, Mrs Nkechi Mordi, regained her freedom after the police mounted pressure on the kidnappers. “On June 29, one Emmanuel Utomi of Ogwashi-Uku reported a case of kidnapping at the Divisional Police Station.

“According to him, on same date at about 1800hrs five unknown armed men kidnapped his landlady; one Mordi Nkechi Felicia aged 52yrs, her daughter and her 13-year-old daughter, Miss Mordi Ogor.

Kalu said that the complainant reported that the kidnapers also drove away with the victim’s Hyunda Jeep car. She said that upon receiving the information, an anti-robbery patrol team attached to Ogwashi-Uku Division visited the scene and went on trail of the hoodlums.

“However, due to pressure mounted on the hoodlums by the action of the police, Nkechi was released unhurt by her abductors.

“The kidnappers also abandoned her Hyundai Jeep car, while her daughter is still being held hostage”.

The police spokesperson said that the command had intensified efforts to track down the hoodlums to rescue the girl. (NAN)

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
