DELTA STATE: DON'T WASTE MONEY ON ADVERT ON MY BIRTHDAY, OKOWA TELLS FRIENDS, APPOINTEES

Ahead of his 56th birthday anniversary, the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has warned Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies not to waste money in placing congratulatory messages on his birthday.
The Governor, whose birthday is coming up on July 8, has asked all heads of government agencies in the State not to use government funds to place adverts for him, as part of his resolve to curb wastes in government. In the same vein, he urged his friends and well-wishers to channel funds they intend to use in placing such adverts on his birthday to the empowerment of less privileged persons in their communities.
Governor Okowa stated this while speaking at the swearing in ceremony of newly appointed Commissioners and Special Advisers in Asaba, Delta State capital. The Governor urged the Commissioners to avoid corruption so as to retain the implicit confidence and trust Deltans have reposed on them.
‘’Corruption starves the state of valuable resources that could be used for infrastructural development, improve our education systems, boosts our healthcare system and take care of the poor and needy, even worse is that anywhere it is allowed to fester the cost of doing business becomes prohibitive.
“I want to seek the support and partnership of all public office holders to lead the fight against corruption in their respective offices, that is the only way to retain the trust and confidence the people have bestowed upon us,’’ Senator Okowa stated.
He reminded the commissioners and special advisers that it is no longer business as usual in the management of government activities and urged them to be honest, diligent and responsible in the discharge of their duties.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
