GOVERNOR OKOWA DESIRES COMPLETION OF ASABA AIRPORT

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has charged contractors handling different projects at the Asaba International Airport to speed up their pace of work as he desires early completion of the multi billion naira project.
Senator Okowa who paid an unscheduled visit to the airport today (02/07/15) warned that he was committed to seeing early completion of the Airport in accordance with the bill of quantity given to the different contractors handling the project.
Chairman of ULO Construction Company, Ogbueshi Uche Okpunor, representatives of Levant Construction and CCC Construction Companies who were handling different jobs at the airport were urged to ensure that they live up to their billings.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Dona Umukoro observed that the contractors still have a lot of works to do in accordance with the bill of quantity which the Governor stated, "you must obey the Permanent Secretary, he is your employer in this case, I trust his judgment and if he deceives me, I will sack him, we want the best for our people."
The Governor called on the contractors to meet with the officials of Ministry of Works to streamline their activities to ensure early completion of the job, insisting he should be properly briefed to enable him know the true situation of the airport.
"This is a specialized area, I want you (contractors) to meet with the Ministry of Works, I want to be properly briefed on progress of work," the Governor said, emphasizing, "I believe we are on course, I am here to see the basics."
Governor Okowa inspected different sections of the airport including the tank farm, the arrival and departure lounge, the tarmac, the security and firefighting facilities.
