DELTA: GOVERNOR OKOWA SIGNS DESOPADEC BILL INTO LAW

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has signed the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission – DESOPADEC bill into law.

The Law restructures the management of the commission by scraping the office of the Executive Chairman to be replaced with the position of Managing Director, who will be assisted by Executive Directors, with the-day-to-day management of the commission. Under the Law the role of Chairman and part-time Commissioners representing the various ethnic nationalities would be to propose projects and ensure their execution. Additionally, the Law also substituted “oil producing areas” with “oil producing ethnic nationalities,” ostensibly to allow excluded parts of the State to benefit from DESOPADEC.

The Executive Bill, which had been earlier, passed into Law by the State House of Assembly, was signed into Law in the presence of the Speaker, Hon. Monday Igbuya and other officials of the House of Assembly and the executive arm of government.
