GOVERNOR OKOWA URGES OPPONENTS TO SHEATHE THEIR SWORDS FOR PEACE

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has offered hands of fellowship to his opponents in the last gubernatorial election to sheath their swords and work for the good of the state.
Okowa made the call on Sunday during a thanksgiving service by Murphy Urugbezi, Ogwara I, the Ovie of Ellu Kingdom, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ellu, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
According to the governor, “one thing we must realise is that after the elections, we remain brothers and sisters, whatever the party you belong to, it is time for us to work together, let us build Delta State together.
“I want to appeal to all, it is time for us to build Delta together, we are open to criticism, we are open to suggestion, we may not know it all but one thing that I know is that we must be united, it is time for us to love ourselves, it is time for us to build the Delta State of our dream,” he reiterated.
The governor thanked the people of Isoko nation and all Deltans for voting for him which made him to emerge victorious in the gubernatorial elections.
He said: “This is an opportunity to say thank you to the people of Isoko nation, the people of Isoko North and Isoko South, the traditional rulers and their subjects, I am governor today because the people of the state came to say that I should be governor, I got full support from both the traditional rulers and their subjects in the three senatorial districts, especially the people of Isoko North and Isoko South.

“We will continue to manage the resources of Delta State for the common good of the people, it is the promise we made,” he assured.
Earlier in a sermon, Rev. Fr. Paul Omovigho, admonished Christians to “teach people how to be good citizens, teach people the commandment,” adding that it was important for the people to give thanks to God.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

The service featured the introduction of various dignitaries, including Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who represented President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment. The enthusiastic reception for Chief James Ibori during this solemn occasion highlighted his enduring legacy among the people of Delta State.
