Gov okowa inspects sapele market
The
Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has announced that the State
government has made the accreditation of the Faculty of Engineering at Delta
State University (DELSU) Oleh Campus a priority.
The governor who disclosed
this while addressing students of the faculty during an inspection visit stated
that he came to see the situation on ground in order to enable him know how to
address the issues militating against the accreditation of the faculty.
“l
came to see the situation of things on ground because l know that there are
issues that need to be addressed before the faculty will be accredited by
Nigeria University Commission (NUC), l am pleased with the level of discipline
among you (students) and assure you that we will speed up the process of
accreditation by meeting up with the standard given us.", the governor
said.
Senator
Okowa informed the students that he has directed the contractors handling the
infrastructural projects in the school to return back to site and ensure that
the projects were completed on time, adding that he has also ordered that the
contract file be moved from the Ministry of infrastructure to Education to
ensure proper monitoring of the projects.
Governor
Okowa disclosed that he has invited the Vice Chancellor of the University,
Professor Peretemode and the School Provost, Prof. Benjamin Okagba to a meeting
on Monday to discuss on how to speed up the accreditation process stressing
that" Engineering is one of the faculties that equip our youths with
skills to be self-reliant rather than depend on government for job after
graduation."
The
governor emphasized that his administration would give priority to areas where
youths would acquire skills to empower themselves.
In
a related development, Senator Okowa inspected on-going construction work at
Sapele Market and assured the traders that the market would be completed in no
distant time and the stall properly allocated to them.
He
directed the local government council Chairman to refund the money already
collected from the traders for allocation of the stalls saying " Proper
allocation of the over 1,600 market stalls will be done when the market is
completed".
