The Governor Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has inaugurated a 6 man Planning Committee on Education Summit, with a charge on the committee to fashion out ways to develop the eduction sector in the State.
Governor Okowa in his remarks during the inauguration said, the inauguration of the Committee is another major step forward aimed at making education the cornerstone of economic transformation Programme in Delta State.
"A good educational system has the capacity to produce transformed individuals equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop the society they live in and make a success of their careers and lives.
"Education is also a sector that is able to catalyse commercial and social activities around it, and help in the growth and prosperity of communities.
The Governor noted that the present educational system in the state and Nigeria is grossly deficient. "There is a sense of realization that our present educational system is grossly deficient and out of touch with the realities of the 21st century society."
"In today's knowledge economy, education, not oil or natural resources, has become the competitive edge of serious countries all over the world. The meteoric rise of countries like Singapore, Malaysia, China and South Korea that have leap frogged other third world nations and joined the elite league of developed nations is due largely to the development of their human capital.
Governor Okowa therefore charged the committee to focus on learning goals, values orientation, social transformation, community participation, the leaning climate, service learning and centre of excellence to evolve a grand strategy for Delta State to become an education hub that will groom future generations of leaders in Delta, Nigeria and the world."
The Committee has Executive Consultant to the Governor, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare as Chairman, Hon. Commissioner for Higher Education, Engr. Jude Sinebe, Hon. OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
