GOVERNOR OKOWA: LEADERSHIP AND VISION CLARITY

OFAGBE TECHNICAL COLLEGE BUILDING

Governor Okowa was quite aware that unemployment and empowerment problem is the biggest challenge confronting the State and country and that all resources should be pooled together to create maximum possible avenues for the unemployed youth of the State.

So far, the creation of opportunities for unemployed youth remains the top priority of the present administration, which after taking over the reins’ of government devised a first of its kind job policy in the country through the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurship Programme, YAGEP and the Skill Training and Entrepreneurship Programme, STEP, schemes acknowledged even at the national level.

As part of measures to sustain the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme, the State government has commenced the rehabilitation of Technical Colleges in the State and created of the Vocational Skills Education Board.

The Governor is committed to seeing hope and happiness on the gloomy faces of un-employed youth and to make their future bright and safe. The Governor’s interest is that while every possibility is being explored to provide jobs in public sector, the youth should also venture into the private sector by availing themselves of the attractive incentives available under the State’s Industrial and Agricultural policies.

As part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and generate wealth for the people, the Delta State Government, through its Production and Processing Support Programme ( PPSP ) has distributed tractors to agricultural cooperatives across the State and hundreds of bags of fish feeds and fingerlings to fish farmers across the State.
It is necessary to caution our people against machinations of political opponents who are desperately trying to hoodwink them into needless criticisms through their falsehood and deceit. They will try to exploit sentiments and emotions of the innocent people and polarize the communities on ethnic basis, but Deltans should be united to thwart their nefarious game plans.

The opposition championed by Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe is impervious to the sterling performance of the present administration and desperately tries to mislead people by false propaganda. The Government is well abreast with the challenges of the people and no stone will be left un-turned in coming up with creative and innovative ideas that meet their expectations. The promises made to the people will be fulfilled earnestly and all genuine grievances redressed. But the dire economic straits, which the country and States face, dictates some measured steps, not thoughtless and needless launching of projects that are never completed but aimed only at getting publicity and applause that leave the State impoverished and tied down.

Deltans are fully aware. They cannot be led by the nose by people whose only means of livelihood is to hurl invectives at innocent hard-working people on Facebook.

Governor Okowa’s popularity will continue to soar!

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
