WE ARE DETERMINED TO REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT…POC OVBIJE, DESOPADEC COMMISSIONER

The Commissioner representing Ughelli North,Ethiope East and Urhobos in Patani in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief POC Ovbije has said that the newly renovated Skill Acquisition Centre in Afiesere will soon be put to use. The Commissioner made the statement while speaking with newsmen recently.
He noted that the skill acquisition centre was built from the fifty per cent of the thirteen per cent derivation fund from oil revenue accruing to Delta State in 2008 and later handed over to DESOPADEC after the creation of the Board.
He emphasized that the skills acquisition center has been abandoned since it was built, but as part of DESOPADEC intervention programmes and in line with the Governor Okowa’s SMART agenda, the Commission decided to renovate and put the Centre to use.  Chief Ovbije was happy to announce that the fourteen workshops in the Centre are fully equipped.

He commended Afiesere community, the host community for been able to secure the skill acquisition center with all the equipment intact. He said, “I salute their courage and I urge them to maintain this record”.
The commissioner assured Deltans that in few weeks, the Governor will be here to commission this place and training of our youths will kick off.
Chief Ovbije urged Deltans to imbibe the culture of self-employment in order to diversify the State economy as a result of the dwindling oil price. He emphasized that for any country’s economy to be stable, it must be founded on small & medium scale enterprise and agriculture.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
