HOW THE GOVERNOR OKOWA ADMINISTRATION HAS FARED

After nine months of assuming office, the Governor Okowa’s administration has piloted the affairs of the State with candour and vision clarity. Most importantly, the Governor has brought back a quiescent and calm culture of playing politics in the State, excerpt for the occasion mischievous and rascally outburst of one Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, who is neither a party officeholder nor a recognized leader of the APC. His spate of reckless witch-hunting has become too much.

Right from the beginning of the present administration in May, 2015, the country has been battling with a dwindling economy which over the years thrived on crude oil as a mono- product. The fall in the price of crude oil in the international market has taken negative toll on the economy of country and many States including ours.

“The new wave of challenge, therefore, is for States in Nigeria and particularly leaders, who hold the people’s mandate in trust, to arise and evolve alternative ways of achieving sustainable economic growth and prosperity, including guaranteeing survival for its teeming populace.

Honesty is the channel of truth between the soul and the mind. Those who nurture it are imbued with enormous power: the power to know, the power to differentiate, the power to reflect, the power to choose and ultimately the power to speak the truth. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is an honest leader who will not lie to get votes and turn around to deny the pledges he made. Rather, he is fulfilling his promises so that his people can grow economically, socially and politically.

In line with his promises, he is determined to take Delta youths and the unemployed off the streets, create Jobs and secure a better future for that population. From the Agricultural to other professional skills acquisition programmes, the youths are being given the opportunity to acquire new techniques for self-sustaining growth.
It is a general knowledge that Governor Okowa's policies and programmes are anchored on the S.M.A.R.T agenda, which enthuses prosperity for all Deltans. In fulfilling his promise on job and wealth creation, thousands of youths have been trained by his administration on series of skills development and manpower.
Having acknowledged that Delta State has tremendous potentials in agriculture, including the urgent need for job and wealth creation, Governor Okowa within few months of coming to office set up six new schemes to grow the agro - industrial sector of the economy, namely Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurial Programme (YAGEP), Skill Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP), Production and Processing Support Programme (PPSP), Tractorisation, Extension of Microcredit and Agricultural Loans and Development of Agro-industries.
Presently, there are numerous road construction and rehabilitation projects on-going across the State. Some of these include:

1)   Dualization of Okpanam Road
2)   Section A of Ughelli/Asaba road dualization
3)   Ughelli, Afiesere, Ofuoma road
4) Aragba -Aghalokpe road
5) Usiona Street, Asaba, Oshimili
6) Cable Point, Asaba
7) FMC, Asaba
8) Jeddo road, Okpe LGA
9) Delsuth link road, Oghara in Ethiope West
10) Trailer park Road, Nigercat, Ekpan in Uvwie LGA
11) Internal roads in Oghara.
12) Okuvo-Kpokpogri-Iriama road in Okpe LGA
13) Ejinyere road in Orerokpe, Okpe LGA
14) Ozanogo-Alisime road in Ika south LGA
15) Ubeji road, by the NNPC refinery in Ekpan
16) Ohore junction-Omadino expressway project
17) Sapele dualization project, among others.

The Governor has assured that the State government is determined to complete most of these projects before the height of the rainy season.
Despite the continually dwindling federal allocation to the State, Governor Okowa’s administration has remain steadfast in doing everything necessary to make sure that civil servants are paid monthly. However, delays may occur but that is due more to the interruptions being experienced with FAAC monthly meetings. People who still claim on social media that civil servants in the State are not being paid are either outdated or mischievous. Some States are owing up to 6, 7, 8 months. In some, they are laying off workers. But in Delta State, government is not owing? No we’re not.

There are a lot of assurances and reassurances for the near future of Delta State. There might be trying times in the nation right now, but fortunately for our people, the right man is at the helm of affairs in Delta State. He who is adept in managing little, can be trusted to do much if we are blessed with abundance.

Governor Okowa stands for honesty, trustworthy and conscientiousness. He is highly-principled, selfless, bonded in contentment, decent and above all, prudent. With him, Delta State has chosen a leader who is not selfish, and who will place people over his personal needs and above all, transparent.

No one is greater than God.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
