President
Muhammadu Buhari has received with sadness, the news of the passing away of the
first civilian governor of Delta, Chief Felix Ibru.
In a condolence message on behalf of the Federal Government, Buhari extended sincere condolences to the renowned Ibru family, the Urhobos whom he led for several years as President-General, Urhobo Progressive Union.
A statement, acknowledging the condolence message, was issued to
newsmen on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Femi Adesina, the president’s Special Adviser
on Media and Publicity.
It said that the President also condoled with the people of
Delta and Chief Ibru’s friends and associates across Nigeria.
The statement said Buhari joined them in mourning the late
governor and distinguished senator who made remarkable contributions to the
progress and development of Nigeria during his long career as an architect,
businessman, politician, community leader and philanthropist.
He urged all who mourned Chief Ibru to take “solace in the
awareness of his fulfilled life of great accomplishments.’’
The statement said the president gave thanks to God Almighty for
the indelible legacies which the late governor left behind for his heirs and
successors to build on.
He prayed that God Almighty would receive Ibru’s soul and grant
him eternal rest.
