HAPPENING NOW: OGHARA AGOG AS DELTA CENTRAL PDP HOSTS GOVERNOR OKOWA TO A CIVIC RECEPTION

The Peoples’ Democratic Party in Delta Central Senatorial district today gathered at the Oghara township stadium to hold a civic reception for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. The crowd was overwhelming, even as their voices rented the air within and around the vicinity, as they chanted various songs to drive home their message of celebrations.

During the elections, Deltans voted massively for PDP and Governor Okowa won the governorship election resoundingly but opposition parties went to the election tribunal all through to the Supreme court, which upheld the victory of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Okowa, so the party in the senatorial district is out today to celebrate and thank God for what He has done for Delta people”.
The supporters, began to converge at the Oghara township stadium in the early hours of the day, chanting pro-Okowa songs. As they sang, danced and marched around the stadium, most of them bore placards which praised the State governor. On arrival in Oghara, Governor Okowa moved straight to the palace to pay courtesy call on His Royal Majesty, Noble Oyibo Eshemitan FCA, Orefe III, the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom.

As the Governor arrived the stadium the crowd, led by the leaders of various groups and leaders of the party, danced joyfully, while thanking God for the victory at the election and supreme court judgment. While some shop owners, street traders, artisans, tricycle (keke) operators and motorists, abandoned their businesses and joined in the celebration, others lined up the streets hailing Governor Okowa.

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
