EU LAUDS DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT ON COUNTERPART FUNDING AS GOV. OKOWA RECEIVES EUROPEAN UNION NIGER DELTA SUPPORT DELEGATION
The
European Union (EU) has commended Delta State Government for being the only
state in the country to have contributed N300m counterpart funding for the
Niger Delta Support Programme.
Leader of the European Union, Niger Delta Support Programme
delegation, Albert Achten gave the commendation during a courtesy cum advocacy
visit on Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa at Government House,
Asaba.
According to Achten, "Delta State is the only state out of
27 states in the country to have contributed N300m counterpart funding for the
European Union Intervention programme in food security, water supply and
sanitation," he said.
He continued, "it is our appeal therefore that Delta State
Government should as a matter of urgency contribute more to the programme to
enable them access more funds from that of other states that have failed to
contribute their own counterpart funds."
He disclosed that the state government will get 70 per cent of
whatever amount it contributes as counterpart fund.
In his response, Governor Okowa thanked the European Union for
their support and assured that in a few weeks’ time the state will contribute
the balance of N104m required to access the fund.
According to the governor, his administration will always
partner with individuals, corporate organisations and governments that are
willing to contribute to the development of Delta State.
