OKOWA CHALLENGES MANAGERS OF GOVT INSTITUTIONS ON ACCOUNTABILITY...COMMISSIONS 14, 000 CAPACITY STADIA, OTHERS

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has challenged managers of government institutions to ensure that finances were accountably utilized to the benefits of the masses.
Governor Okowa who commissioned series of projects executed at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro yesterday (01/12/16) said the recession affecting the country has called for proper utilization of resources to avoid any form of wastage.
At the polytechnic, Governor Okowa commissioned a 14, 000 capacity Olympic size stadium, laboratory building for science laboratory technology department, engineering workshop for the department of chemical engineering, restructured Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro main gate, firefighting station building, firefighting truck and back up truck and 2 kilometre campus roads.
"It is one thing to generate fund, it is another to make accountable use of such fund," the governor said, observing that the governing council and management of the Ozoro Polytechnic had done very well in utilization of revenue generated by the institution.
He also commended the institution for providing the enabling environment for academic activities to thrive, noting that while the courses offered by the institution have increased, the courses have also, been accredited 100 per cent.
"I believe that students will leave this institution well equipped for the future," Governor Okowa reiterated, and used the occasion to sue for peace in the state to ensure speedy development.
Governor Okowa who took the kick off at a commemorative football match between students of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi and the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro which was watched by more than 14, 000 persons, asserted, "it is time we sheathe our swords, it is time we embrace dialogue as the best form of dispute resolution; a lot of investors are coming to our state but, we should create the enabling environment for such investments to thrive; it is my belief that God will continue to assist us as a state and we are convinced that we will continue to be accountable and do a lot more for our people."
The Ovie of Ozoro Kingdom, HRM Anthony Ogbogbo, Ibuka I lauded Governor Okowa for providing pragmatic government in the state which was transcending to all sectors in the State.
Earlier, Chairman, Governing Council of the Institution, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon had commended Governor Okowa for his assistance which made it possible for such landmark projects to be executed while the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Jacob Oboreh disclosed that the projects were executed by the staff and students of the institution.
"I have firm belief that as a Polytechnic that trains manpower for the technical development of our nation, we have the manpower and all the skills required for the execution of these projects," he said, adding, "we adopted a model whereby staff and students in engineering, building technology and quantity surveying departments are involved in the construction and execution of all our projects under the co-ordination and supervision of the Director of Works who is a COREN registered civil engineer."
The occasion which witnessed a lot of fanfare featured different dances, and other sporting competitions.
