GOVERNOR OKOWA URGES COMMUNITIES TO DONATE LAND FOR DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS... Commissions More Projects In Delta

The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has urged communities to freely donate land to government for developmental projects.

The Governor made the call at Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South local government area of Delta State during commissioning cum inspection of projects as part of activities lined up to mark his second year anniversary in office.

According to the Governor, his administration will not request for land from communities unless there was urgent need for such, disclosing that the proposed Agro-Industrial Park for Ogwashi-Uku will boost the socio-economic life of the people of the area and the state in general.

Speaking on the wild life park which government has acquired land for but, was yet to come on stream, the Governor said, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey and the Attorney-General of the state have been urged to look into the process of returning such land to the community.

“When government requests for land from the community, the people should see it not only as sacrifice to do so, but, it should be something that should be done to develop the area,” Governor Okowa said, adding, “the wild life park or zoo does not appear to be on course, it is better that we return that parcel of land to the community because, any land that is donated to government must be put into use and the Agro-Industrial Park is real.”

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...
