SO SAD: HOW ABUJA FLOOD KILLED APC BOT MEMBER AFTER SWEEPING HIS CAR OFF THE ROAD

A member of the moribund Board of Trustees BOT of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Sir Olisaemeka Akamukalem is dead.

Akamukalem, who hailed from Delta state died on Tuesday in Gwarinpa, Abuja after a torrential rainfall which swept his car. He was aged 57.

Eye-witnesses said they watched helplessly as the flood swept the party chieftain and his car to their end. In the meantime, APC said it received the news of the death of one of its “respected leaders, Sir Olisaemeka Akamukali with shock”.

In a statement issued Thursday in Abuja and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, APC recalled that the late Akamukali was the former National Chairman of the Democratic Peoples’Party (DPP) that merged with others to form the APC in 2013.

He had also served as the first Assistant National Secretary of the All Peoples Party (APP).

“He was the Director-General of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Campaign for President and thereafter served as member of the APC Presidential Campaign Committee that worked for the successful election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

“The late party chieftain who served the APC as first interim National Auditor was one the stabilizing forces in the party and always identified with progressive causes to strengthen the Party and ensure unity among members.

“Sadly, the late Akamukali has left us at a critical time when he was needed to contribute to nation building and the implementation of the APC Change Agenda. We however take solace knowing that the late Party chieftain lived a fulfilled and impactful life during his time on earth”, APC added.

It is most unfortunate that Delta State had to lose an illustrious son in this manner. However, this should stand as a lesson to all, especially, APC online media rats, that deluge or flood after heavy rainfall is not the problem of Asaba alone. If this unfortunate incident had occurred in the State, social media would have been inundated with #APCtakeoverdelta. But the truth is, across the world, it is not unusual that after very heavy rainfall, there is bound to be a deluge. May his soul rest in peace!

OBOREVWORI: How Not To Glorify A 'One Chance' Governor - By Zik Gbemre

It is appalling how, in desperation to sustain its thieving hegemony over the Delta State Government since 1999, the Delta PDP had the audacity to impose the weakest, most uninformed contender, a local champion, as Governor over a state replete with accomplished men and women of immense capacity. Given this unenviable privilege, one would have expected the fortunate placeholder governor, Sheriff Oborevwori—whose only election campaign manifesto was pledging to improve on the failed leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa, his predecessor—to engage creative minds and individuals of proven integrity to assist him in making a difference. Rather than doing the needful, Oborevwori has worsened matters by electing to engage the same spent leaders, deadwood, and gluttons that have gained prominence in running the state down over successive administrations. The result has been a government of mediocre officeholders competing to run the state for their pockets at the detriment of the populace, under a gove...

THE ENDURING LEGACY OF LEADERSHIP: Chief James Ibori Celebrated for His Impact on Delta State

On Friday, May 31st, during the funeral service for the Late Asagba of Asaba, the essence of true leadership was vividly displayed. The service featured the introduction of various dignitaries, including Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who represented President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor Godwin Obaseki, and Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. As each dignitary was introduced, the church remained silent. However, the atmosphere dramatically changed when the name of Former Governor James Ibori was announced; the congregation erupted in wide jubilation and applause. This reaction was so profound that even Senator George Akume and Governor Obaseki could not hide their astonishment. The enthusiastic reception for Chief James Ibori during this solemn occasion highlighted his enduring legacy among the people of Delta State.
